We’ve been selected to design and deliver the landmark waterfront site Trollhättan 6 district in Malmö

10 September 2025

Our international design team – Team Superlokal – comprising of Kjellander Sjoberg, Förstberg Ling and We Made That, has been appointed for the development of Trollhättan 6 district on Universitetsholmen, Malmö.

Skanska Fastigheter Malmö and Riksbyggen, collaborating with Malmö city, sought innovative teams to transform a 5,100 sqm waterfront site at Nordenskiöldsgatan 13. The competition brief demanded a mixed-use building combining workplaces, housing and community amenities, while preserving valuable elements of existing structures.

From 60 initial expressions of interest, four international teams were selected.

Alongside Kjellander Sjöberg, Förstberg Ling and Ramboll, we brought international perspectives to Team Superlokal's proposal. Our collaborative approach focused on balancing the site's cultural and historical values with modern, sustainable urban development – a combination the judges recognised as exemplary.

The ambition is to develop a sustainable and attractive neighbourhood with low climate impact, that preserves valuable parts of an existing office block and car park whilst strategically adding new vertical extensions to maximise the site’s potential.

The jury consisted of key individuals from the client team as well as built environment experts from Sweden’s public and private sectors:

  • Martin Persson, Skanska Fastigheter Malmö
  • Emmie Dehn, Riksbyggen
  • Anna Holmqvist, Malmö City
  • Karl Landin, Malmö City
  • Ashwin Karjatkar, Gothenburg City
  • Erik Hökby, Marge Architects
  • Gunilla Kronvall (chair), Atelier 01 architecture
“With a clear architectural character rooted in the site’s heritage, the team has balanced development opportunity and cultural history with the delivery of new housing and workspace. The renewal of the existing office building will revive the streetscape by opening up the block and providing space for new businesses on the ground floor to strengthen urban life on Universitetsholmen.”
– Jury on Team Superlokal’s proposal
“It is a privilege to be trusted to continue developing the Trollhättan district together with the developers and the city of Malmö, with high ambitions for a sustainable district in a cultural-historical context. We have worked together in a team consisting of three architectural offices, which has provided an unconventional and interesting answer to how to create architecture that builds on a story about the qualities of the place. Malmö’s port area, and Universitetsholmen in particular, is a unique environment, where we can show new ways of using what has already been built, and combine different activities that contribute to an exciting urban environment.”
– Stefan Sjöberg, Co-founder, Kjellander Sjöberg

This appointment marks the next stage of We Made That’s collaborative development phase with Kjellander Sjoberg and Förstberg Ling. Construction starts in 2027, promising to demonstrate innovative approaches to adaptive reuse in Malmö's unique port environment.
