Help shape the future of York’s creative workspaces

17 July 2026

City of York Council is exploring the workspace needs of the creative and cultural sectors to ensure the local workforce is fit for the future. York is an iconic, historic city with a forward-thinking creative community, reflected in its status as the UK’s only UNESCO Creative City of Media Arts. The availability and affordability of creative workspaces is important to ensure the sector continues to thrive and grow. This study builds upon previous research and invites York's creative and cultural community to share their unique workspace requirements to help shape future support and provision.

We want to hear from York’s creative and cultural professionals, freelancers, students, residents, and existing creative workspace operators. Whether you are at the start of your career or a late-stage career-changer, your voice matters.

We are exploring what workspace provision, such as rehearsal spaces, recording studios, artist studios, maker spaces, or co-working desk spaces, is needed to help York's creative and cultural sectors thrive.

Here are two ways you can get involved and make your voice heard:

1. Take our quick survey

Whether you currently use a creative workspace or hope to in the future, please take a few minutes to share your thoughts.

Please submit your feedback by Wednesday, 14th August.

As a thank you for your time, survey participants can opt-in to be selected for one of two complimentary project surgery sessions. These sessions are designed to provide expert guidance and support to cultural infrastructure operators who are seeking to initiate or advance capital projects.

2. Join our interactive workshop
