We Made That completed a series of graphic and physical interventions to rejuvenate East Street Market - one of the oldest markets in London having existed in one form or the other since the 16th century. It has benefitted from transformations that celebrate Walworth’s unique character. A need to tackle the poor condition of the physical environment, support existing businesses and attract new enterprise was prioritised by local stakeholders and the market traders.
Improved entrances, new market stalls, new power infrastructure, public furniture and shop front improvements now provide a new backdrop to this bustling market. Working with Maddison Graphic, We Made That has produced a renewed identity that has refreshed enthusiasm for this “old market with new ideas”. The market is now growing once again and attracting new traders.
The project was identified in a strategy developed by We Made That and local stakeholders called ‘What Walworth Wants’.
